TEXARKANA, TX – The no. 11 LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team won the series 2-1 against the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles in RRAC action on Friday afternoon. The Pilots defeated the Eagles 23-5 in game one and then 8-3 in game two. The Pilots improve to 36-9 and 17-4 in RRAC play, while the Eagles fall to 23-22 and 11-10 in league play.


"I am very happy with how we bounced back from a horrendous performance," said LSUS Coach Brent Lavallee "Some very good relief appearances from some guys. Seeing our offense wake up today was fun to watch. Any time you can send 18 hitters to the plate in one inning is always fun to see. Happy to see Owen Napieralski (FR/Delta, British Columbia) hit his first collegiate home run. The kid works just as hard as anyone and it's great to see his hard work pay off."


The Pilots offense wasted no time getting into high gear scoring their first 13 runs in the first inning.

Things got started when Payton Robertson (JR/Orange, Texas) doubled to left center field allowing Caleb Lasseigne (SR/Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) to reach home for the first run. A couple of batters later Austin McNicholas (SO/Austin, Texas) would single to right center field while Payton Robertson and Ryne Ray (SO/Shreveport, Louisiana) would score for the early 3-0 lead.

Thanks to a balk from the Eagles pitcher Caleb Baker, Taylor Fajardo (JR/Las Vegas, Nevada) would score another run and then a wild pitch from the eagles let Austin McNicholas and Jordan Trahan (SR/Dayton, Texas) reach home for the 5-0 lead.

Later Miguel Morgan (JR/Ellisville, Mississippi) hit a 3 run homerun on a 2-1 count to increase the Pilots lead 8-0. Next both Caleb Lasseigne and Payton Robertson would score runs when Taylor Fajardo singled to left. Jordan Trahan's single through shortstop allowed Taylor Fajardo to score another run. Lastly, Austin McNicholas would score off of Corey Bellot (FR/Lafayette, Louisiana)'s single.

The Pilots offense continued to dominate as they scored 4 more runs in the top of the second.

Caleb Lasseigne would score after a single from Taylor Fajardo. Next thanks to a drop fly by the Eagles, Ryne Ray and Fajardo scored two more runs for the Pilots. Then to finish the inning off, Beaux Guilbeau (SR/Carthage, Texas)'s double to right center brought Jordan Trahan home for the final run of the inning. The Pilots now led 17-0.

The Pilots added one more run in the top of the third when Caleb Lasseigne scored after a balk from the Eagles pitcher.

Both teams would go scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth. The Pilots added to their lead with 2 runs. Owen Napieralski hit a single up the middle letting Austin McNicholas to score. Then Josh Mason (SR/Stonewall, Louisiana) scored after a single from Corey Bellot.

The Eagles finally added a run in the bottom of the sixth.

In the last inning three more runs for the Pilots gave them 23 for the game. Ryne Ray scored after a Austin McNicholas ground out. Lastly Owen Napieralski hit a 2 run home run on a 0-0 count over the left field fence.

The Eagles rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was not nearly enough as the Pilots held on for the 23-5 win.


Alex Naiser (SR/Cypress, Texas) started for the Pilots today. Going 5 innings giving up 2 hits and 0 earned runs on 76 pitches, and 167 at bats with two strikeouts.

Brendan Owens (SR/Pearland, Texas) would be next pitching 1.2 innings giving up 6 hits and 4earned runs , on 37 pitches and 12 at bats with 3 strikeouts.

Jancarlo Llaser (SO/Miami, Florida) finished the ball game on 2 pitches and 1 at bat.

The first inning was a shutout by both teams.

The Pilots would get on the board first with two runs in the top of the second. Corey Bellot hit a triple to center field that brought both Austin McNicholas and Jordan Trahan home for the scores.

In the top of the third the Pilots added one more run. Austin McNicholas would single to left center allowing Caleb Lasseigne to score.

In the top of the fourth the Pilots added 2 more runs in the top of the fourth. First Jordan Trahan hit a home run over the left fence on a 1-1 count. Then Beaux Guilbeau would hit another homerun for the Pilots giving them a 5-0 lead.

For the fourth inning in a row the Pilots got a run on the board. Payton Robertson became the third Pilot to hit a home run in this game.

Finally the Eagles was able to get on the scoreboard cutting into the Pilots lead 6-3.

The Pilots would not stay pat however adding a run both in the seventh and eighth innings, while shutting out the Eagles the rest of the ball game.

Taylor Fajardo would single through the hole at short stop bringing Payton Robertson home for the score in the seventh inning. Then Jordan Trahan would hit his second homer of the day on a 1-0 count for the final run of the game.

Pilots won 8-3 and wins the series.


Trace Francis (SO/Minden, Louisiana) started for the Pilots today. Going 5.1 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 earned runs on 97 pitches, and 22 at bats, with 6 strikeouts.

David Jones (JR/Denham Springs, Louisiana)) would finish the ball game going 3.2 innings giving up one hit and no earned runs on 64 pitches and 13 at bats with 5 strikeouts.

Trace Francis got the win.
