SHREVEPORT, LA – The no. 11 LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team swept the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs in RRAC action, winning the final game on Monday evening 13-6. The Pilots improve to 40-9 and 20-4 in RRAC play, while the Bulldogs fall to 30-20 and 13-11 in league play.

"I thought that once again we found a way to win without our best performance," said LSUS Coach Brent Lavallee "Corey Bellot (FR/Lafayette, Louisiana) and Owen Napieralski (FR/Delta, British Columbia) both had huge three run homerun's. Still waiting for our team to play it's best baseball. I was happy with the job that David jones did in his first start of his college career and then our bullpen pieced it together and Adrian Cook (SR/Victoria, Texas) once again slam the door. We are looking forward to next week and the challenges that come with everything ahead of us. "
Both teams struggled to get going offensively in this game. With neither team getting a hit in the first inning.
In the second inning the Bulldogs were able to get runners on first and second base with two hits but could not get a score on a board. The Pilots weren't able to get a hit this inning.
In the third inning both teams were shutout from scoring and getting a hit.
In the top of the fourth the Bulldogs were able to get runners on third and first base after a hit and error by the Pilots. The Pilots offense stiffened up and prevented the Bulldogs from getting on the board. Then in the bottom of the fourth Corey Bellot hit s 3 run homerun on a 1-1 count over center field fence for the 3-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth the Bulldogs were finally able to get on the board and kept the Pilots from getting one themselves.
In the top of the sixth of the sixth the Bulldogs added another run to the board to cut into the Pilots lead 3-2.
In the bottom of the sixth the Pilots offense came alive. Charles Clark (JR/Hillsboro, Oregon), scored on double from Caleb Lasseigne (SR/Breaux Bridge, Louisiana). Next, Miguel Morgan (JR/Ellisville, Mississippi) hit a single down the left field line allowing Lasseigne to score. Finally Owen Napieralski would hit a 3 run homerun on a 0-0 count over the left field fence. Increasing the Pilots lead to 8-2.
The top of the seventh saw the Pilots defense prevent the Bulldogs from scoring, giving up only one hit. Then in the bottom of the seventh the Pilots added a run when Owen Napieralski hit a single to right center bringing Caleb Lasseigne home for the score.
The Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian would not go away as they scored two runs after a error by the Pilots, and then scored off of a sac fly in the top of the eighth inning.
Austin McNicholas (SO/Austin, Texas) got the inning started for the Pilots with a single to right field. Then Jordan Trahan (SR/Dayton, Texas) would follow suite with a single to left field. The Pilots would soon receive a gift from the Bulldogs after a error allowed 3 runs for the Pilots to score. Then Miguel Morgan would hit a sac fly allowing Corey Bellot to reach home. Bringing their lead to 14-5 heading into the ninth inning.
Holding firm in the top of the seventh; the Pilots defense kept the Bulldogs off the board and held on for the 1-0 win.
ON THE MOUND
David Jones (JR/Denham Springs, Louisiana) started for the Pilots today. Going 6 innings giving up 3 hits and 0 earned runs on 91 pitches, and 22 at bats with three strikeouts.
Cole Trichel (JR/Monroe, Louisiana) would be next going 1 inning, giving up 2 hits and 0 earned runs on 15 pitches on 4 at bats and a strikeout.
Stachys McLoud (SR/Overland Park, Kansas) was up next going 2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run on 31 pitches and 10 at bats on a strikeout.
Jake Sullivan (FR/Cypress, Texas) went 0.2 inning, giving up 3 hits and no earned runs, on 20 pitches and 4 at bats with a strikeout.
Adrian Cook would finish the ball game giving up no hits and no earned runs , on 19 pitches and 5 at bats with 2 strikeouts.
Cole Trichel got the win with 6 scoreless innings.
